Mr. Republican, Tear Down That Front Door

Along with all of us, the Republican party is about to enter a new decade.

For many of us, the GOP is like a 100 year-old house: The walls and foundation are fine, but the interior needs to be gutted and renovated to make it livable.

Without renovation that includes new people with new ideas, fresh energy and genuine enthusism, the Republican party will continue to be unlivable.

A third party is not the answer, but it's going to happen if the GOP continues to keep its front doors locked in order to hide its crumbling interior.

Mr. Republican, tear down that front door.

There are thousands of us, if not millions of us, who are ready, willing and able to renovate the GOP into once again becoming a winner for the American people.

Listen or lose, GOP.

The PA Common Sense Club 2010

As a result of a meeting held in Stroudsburg, PA on November 19, 2009, we are ready to take the next step toward reclaiming our government, and if you happen to be a Republican, our party. Now, we must take action that will include you in everything we do.

Here are the names of the participants in the November 19th meeting: Steve Johnson, candidate for PA Lt. Governor www.stevejohnson2010.com Chris Paige, candidate for Congress, 11th PA Congressional District www.chrispaigeforcongress.com and James Jones, candidate for Congress, 8th PA Congressional District (info by searching jj2010 on Facebook, website being developed.) Also in attendance were "street-level" Pennsylvanians Steve Miller, Caroline & Brad Strasser and Mike Avery, who wrote this post.

We concluded that the reason there are so many splinter (conservative oriented) groups around Pennsylvania is because of mass rejection of the Democrats, and of the "old guard" PAGOP and its various county committee "old guard" members and their "good old boy" agenda. The "new guard" refuse to play the "old guard" game and have struck out on their own. Here are just a few examples:

The 912ers. The Tea Party groups. The Tri-State Sons of Liberty. Lehigh Valley Conservatives. West End Republicans. The PA New Majority Council. And now, the PA Common Sense Club 2010. This is just off the top of our heads without any research. When researched, we'll find hundreds of such groups around Pennsylvania, and in those groups hundreds of thousands of people. Together, we will have the strength of many. Right now, each group has a limited circle of influence... when we join together, coordinate our activities and focus our strength, we can achieve the power to elect the representatives who we are confident will represent us and not the "old guard" good old boys.

Agreed: We must raise our own umbrella and gather our state-wide like-minded Pennsylvanians under it with us. Then, those who find themselves under the old, full of holes umbrella can choose to stay and get wet, or they can join with us to provide a real victory for all Pennsylvanians.

On non-partisanship: Whether all of us who will work together to build this coalition believe that party identity is a good thing or is not a good thing, may we say this: In most rooms, there are only an elephant and a donkey. The overwhelming majority of candidates and "street-level" Pennsylvanians who share our Conservative values wear the elephant pin on their lapel. So in most cases we will be working to elect a Republican. But, we will be working to elect our Republican, not a RINO and not, in many cases, the PAGOP's Republican. And if a third or fourth-party candidate emerges somewhere who is a true Conservative, so be it... we'll do what we can to help get them elected.

But, and it's a big but... to accomplish what we hope to accomplish -- at this level -- will require you to be on board. Let us know where you stand. Either make a comment on this blog, return to Facebook and comment on the post that contained the link to this page, send a direct message to us by clicking on my picture on Facebook, or E-mail us at my E-mail address: mikeaveryco@msn.com.

Our future is up to you. Thanks,

Mike Avery

Welcome to Where You Live

If You Can Dream It, You Can Live It.

The Republican Party. You Can Live It.

Now, we have to live up to the theme of that headline. So, I ask a rhetorical question: Why can't Republicans win in traditional Democrat strongholds? Easy answer: We don't go in there and sell ourselves. In fact, we cringe at the thought. The result? We are now cringing at the thought of what the Democrats are doing to our country. So, which cringe should we overcome first? You bet, the cringe that will take us to where the votes are.

You never get the sale unless you ask for the order. Just showing up is half the battle. It is not easy to hate someone who you have seen up close, especially if they actually talk to you.

By just asking those living in the inner cities to vote for us, in person, on the ground, some will, and that's a start. Maybe even a better start than we have ever had.

GOP & Obama's Stealthcare

Currently, Democrats and Republicans are debating several issues that have caught the attention of the American people. The three most urgent are: 1. Healthcare. 2. Cap & Trade.
3. Card Check. All three seem to be instilling a fear in the American people that they are losing their freedoms.

Republicans have done a very good job of identifying problems with each of the three issues as they have been proposed by Democrats. On the flip side, Republicans have not been able to articulate a positive solution to the problems they have correctly identified. Therein lies one of the biggest problems the Republican party faces as it heads toward the major elections of 2010... we're very good at the negative, not so good at the positive.

So... where do we begin?

May I be so bold as to suggest that we start at the bottom and work our way to the top? All too often, the Republican party and its candidates have conducted campaigns from the 10th floor, looking down to the people at "street-level" as if they are an afterthought. Suggestion: Let's start at street-level and bring the "street smarts" of the American people to the 10th floor. Then, not only will we be benefitting from the ideas those "street-level" folk will bring to our party, but we will also be earning their votes.

Now, let's talk a little bit about the one issue that is causing the most concern for Americans today: Healthcare.

According to the June, 2009 American Pulse Survey* 57.6% of Americans say the U.S. government is trying to intervene in too many areas. (84.9% of Republicans, 61.7% of Independents & 37.1% of Democrats share those sentiments, says American Pulse.) The survey also reveals that 78% of adults 18+ think that the U.S. government is taking on too much debt.

Healthcare reform as proposed by the Obama administration is guaranteed to increase the national debt by at least a trillion dollars over the next decade. Additionally, the American Pulse Survey tells us that 42.3% of Americans believe that government cannot provide better healthcare than the private sector, 32.2% say government can, and 25.5% say they don't know. These figures should be a wake-up call for both Republicans and Democrats. Clearly indentifying the healthcare problem, real or political in nature, must be the first priority of both parties.

Once the real problem is identified, both parties must work together to offer a solution, and not force-feed a healthcare program down the throats of the American people as is currently being done. When government takeover of the private sector scares the *%^$ out of the American people, trust me, something is dangerously wrong, because... the American people, not government, know what is best for our country.

So, Republicans, give us a realistic view of the healthcare problem in the U.S., including the actual number of legal residents who are involuntarily uninsured. Then, offer a solution that DOES NOT put government in charge of deciding who gets healthcare and who doesn't by leaving it in the hands of the private sector, but with regulation in much the same way utilities are regulated... at the state level.

Enough for this time. We'll take up Cap & Trade and Card Check next time.

Mike Avery

Tea Partiers

The Tea Party movement has become bigger and louder and more influential than the peace marches of the 60s & 70s. The reason is simple: Millions of Americans are fed-up with a government and politicians that serve themselves and not the people to whom they swore to be "Public Servants."

Government takeover of the private sector, including a government that wants to control your healthcare and your salary and the kind of car you drive and what you are permitted to hear on the airwaves and how many cows you are allowed to have and how much electricity you may use and take your money away from you to feed their appetite for power and spending rather than yours, is a government on the road to dictatorship, whether benevolent or not.

There are three types of power available to the American people: Military Power, Political Power and Financial Power. Now is the time for us to act while we are still in control of the latter two.

Attend a Tea Party this summer. For a Tea Party near you, log on to http://www.teapartypatriots.org/, or contact powerof5usa@gmail.com. You may also follow us on Twitter at Powerof5USA, or on FaceBook at mikeaveryco. In Northeast Pennsylvania, log on to www.meetup.com/pocono-tea-party.

Never Before?

Never before in the history of the United States have so few screwed up so much is such a short time. Let's recap: The economy, even more down the tubes, no end in sight per the president. The military to be cut. Foreign realtions, you name it... Israel/Hezbollah, Iran, North Korea (but the Europeans think we're great because we apologize for all the "bad" things we've done.) Health care, get ready to stay sick, and to wait in line to die ("Soylent Green" anyone? You can Google Soylent Green. but go to the plot line and ignore the liberal slant on global warming at the beginning. Want a clue? Soylent Green is you, after waiting in line to die. Great old movie every conservative should revisit. Probably couldn't get made today.)

Hey, am I nuts to think like this? Or am I predicting the future? What say you?

Lights Out For GOP?

Will the last person leaving the Republican party please turn out the lights? That's what they say. We say, NO WAY!

There are millions of Republicans in the United States who are demanding that the Republican party be restored to its rightfull owners: WE THE PEOPLE.

It is we the people who gave part of the prize to Republican leadership in 1994... control of the House of Representatives, which came about as a result of the "Contract with America." Then, in the early 21st Century, we the people gave all of the prize to Republican leadership... the presidency, the House and the Senate. The result? They threw it away.

Now, it's up to us to reclaim what is ours by restoring the Republican party to its greatness. We will not compromise. We the people will take back what belongs to us based on sound Republican principles:

Respect for the Constitution
Respect for life
Belief in limited government
Responsibility for ourselves

Those four points describing the basics of Conservatism were presented to a conservative group in Washington early in 2009... by 14 year-old Jonathon Krohn. If he gets it, the adults in the Republican party should also get it, wouldn't you think?

Well, we do get it, don't we? And it makes no difference who you are, nor what race you are, nor what religion you are, nor what political party you are, the answer to the Republican party's goal of reclaiming its greatness is in your hands. Give us your ideas and your dreams and your energy, and we promise you that you will be heard, you will be paid attention to, and you will help us to return the Republican party to its rightfull owners... WE THE PEOPLE!

The Republican Party. You Can Live It. We promise

Now, help us to make that promise come true. Comments on this blog are requested. We are dedicated to bringing the Republican message to all Americans, everywhere, throughout the United States.
